Muddyfox Road 14 Road Bike

During this Muddyfox Road 14 road bike review the bike will be put through it’s paces and evaluated on several key areas. The Muddyfox Road 14 is an entry level road bike. The bike is a good option for those who are looking for a beginner road bike.

The Muddyfox Road 14 road bike has a simple design however uses quite impressive components offering the rider a solid performance for a very competitive price. The road bikes 56cm frame is made from hi-tensile lightweight steel coloured mainly in white. The bikes front fork is a dark blue colour. The bike has drop styled handlebars that are adjustable allowing the rider to configure them to a specific height. The handlebars are home to the 14 speed Shimano gear shifters and the alloy brake levers. The Muddyfox Road 14 road bike comes with 700c double walled rims and 28c road tyres. The bike has standard black plastic road bike pedals included with the bike & has an adjustable sports saddle offering a comfortable ride for those long distance bike rides.

The Muddyfox Road 14 road bike comes with from and back calliper brakes that give a good response when used. The bike stops quickly and safely as expected without the brake levers being overly sensitive. The Brake pads are easily changed and require minor configuration upon receiving the bike.

The Muddyfox Road 14 road bike comes with 28c road tyres. These tyres offer a smooth tread that allows the bike to cut through the air and minimise drag on the road. Despite the bikes low Muddyfox Road 14 is still able to grip the road quite well for those moments when you need to turn direction or suddenly brake. Overall the tyres seems strong and durable so should last a significant amount of time as long as they avoid damage or punctures.

The Muddyfox Road 14 road bike has very little in terms of suspension or cushioned ride comfort. You feel the road quite well through the handlebars and saddle. This give the rider a sporty feel for the bike and despite a bumpy road causing ride comfort to drop, if the road is smooth then the bike rides really well.

What a great example of how you can purchase a brand new road bike for very little money. This bike has some great components and offers a really comfortable ride for very little financial commitment. The bikes style is easy on the eye and everything from the saddle to the pedals and handlebars is designed with rider comfort in mind. A really good entry level road bike.

Vilano Rampage Black

The Vilano Rampage Black fixed gear road bike is very well designed bike.

This bike is eye catching to say the least. The Vilano Rampage’s frame is jet black as is every component of this bike. The frame comes in at 12.5kg (large version is 15kg) and is designed to eat up the miles. As stated earlier the whole bike is coloured black and looks great. The handle bars aren’t as curved and ergonomic as some of the others available however they are just as comfortable and easy to use. The wheels on this bike are impressive, presented in black and seem strong and durable. The Vilano Rampage Black comes with urban platform pedals as standard. The saddle is perhaps a little on the hard side however remains comfortable and easily adjusted for rider preference. The Vilano Rampage Black comes with a rear flip-flop hub containing a freewheel and cog, allowing the rider to quickly change from a single speed to a fixed gear by flipping the rear wheel. This is well reviewed and we agree is a very nice feature of the bike.

The brakes do need a little adjustment initially however perform well once corrected. The pads are quite tough and plastic like however can be easily upgraded if you’re unhappy with them. For the price the brakes are more than sufficient and respond well when engaged.

The tyres are brilliant on this model. If regularly kept at a steady pressure they’ll last a long time. Some choose to upgrade things like tyres and brakes immediately however with the tyres provided with the Vilano Rampage Black this is not necessary.

The bike rides really smoothly and although the seat is a little on the hard side, the experience of riding this bike on the whole is positive.

Hugely recommended bike to anyone looking for a low maintenance, high quality bike. The price for a brand new bike like this is impressively low and therefore offers huge value for money. The bike comes with somewhat budget components which is perfectly understandable for the cost of the bike. These can be upgraded if and when you choose, offering the rider with the ability to enjoy the bike immediately and improve their experience over time with component by component upgrades. This bike is very good and we hugely recommend you consider the Vilano Rampage Black when looking for your next road bike.

Royal London Fixed Gear Speed Bike

Not many road bikes come in bright yellow. However the Royal London fixed gear speed bike certainly does. This bike is a celebration of colour and you can’t help but smile at its simplistic yet charming design.

The Royal London fixed gear speed bike has a sturdy 22″ steel frame and a flip-flop rear hub allowing the rider to ride on a fixed gear or a single-speed. The bike has and adjustable yellow and black saddle that matches the frame of the bike in terms of colour. The bikes frame is bright yellow, it’s handlebars, saddle mount and pedal system all in black. Although the bike doesn’t take a conventional approach in it’s colour scheme it’s easy to see it’s charm and character. The bike comes with black plastic pedals as standard. It’s worth mentioning that the bike is available in a less flamboyant colour scheme where the frame of the bike is primarily white, however even with this design the adjustable saddle is bright green so you still get some burst of colour with this variety as well. The bike weighs in at 14kgs and therefore is in contention with most road bikes despite being made of steel rather than the more common alloy material used in road bikes.

Royal London have added brakes to this model of their bike to allow it to meet safety regulations for road use. They have attached V brakes at the front and rear of the bike and these seem to be sufficient to provide the response and braking power needed to stop the bike safely and quickly.

The first thing to point out about the tyres on the Royal London fixed gear speed bike is their colour. Blue, a rare choice of colour when it comes to road bike tyres. These Wanda 700c x 25c tyres are an interesting combo to the bright yellow wheel rims and frame of the bike.

The bike is amazingly comfortable to ride. This bike is a head turner so expect plenty of looks, after all it is bright yellow with blue tyres. The bike’s seat is also surprisingly comfortable and the combination of the bikes components result in a smooth ride. This bike could easily be used for long journeys and there is very little chance of other road users not seeing you.

A beautifully individual bike, very different to the usual road bikes seen on the market. The combination of simple design and bright colours is unique and a great show of creativity by Royal London. The only thing better than the bikes look and feel is the price.

Vilano Rampage Red

The Vilano Rampage Red fixed gear road bike is very well designed bike.

This bike is eye catching to say the least. The Vilano Rampage’s frame is jet black as is every component of this bike apart from the hand grips and wheel trims. The frame comes in at 12.5kg (large version is 15kg) and is designed to eat up the miles. As stated earlier the almost the whole bike is coloured black and looks great. The handle bars aren’t as curved and ergonomic as some of the others available however they are just as comfortable and easy to use. The wheels on this bike are impressive, presented in red with black spokes and seem strong and durable. The Vilano Rampage Red comes with urban platform pedals as standard. The saddle is perhaps a little on the hard side however remains comfortable and easily adjusted for rider preference. The Vilano Rampage Red comes with a rear flip-flop hub containing a freewheel and cog, allowing the rider to quickly change from a single speed to a fixed gear by flipping the rear wheel.

Some choose to upgrade things like tyres and brakes immediately however with the tyres provided with the Vilano Rampage Red this is not necessary.

This bike is very good and we hugely recommend you consider the Vilano Rampage Red when looking for your next road bike.

Muddyfox Voyager 100 Mens Road Bike

The Muddyfox Voyager 100 road bike is ideal for novice and intermediate riders.

The Muddyfox Voyager 100 road bike comes with a steel touring frame. The bike’s frame is primarily white and has spots of black and light blue in places. The frame leads via an adjustable alloy stem to black alloy back swept handlebars. The handlebars have 18 speed Shimano Tourney gears with Revoshift shifters. The bike comes with black plastic pedals and a chain guard as standard. There is also an alloy pannier rack over the rear wheel allowing you to transport items with ease. The Muddyfox Voyager 100 road bike comes with 700C double walled ally wheels and front and rear mudguards. The bike also comes with an alloy kickstand. The bike also comes with a comfort saddle that upon inspection seems to be very well made and comfortable for long journeys. The weight of the bike is 16kgs which puts it higher than the average road bike’s 14kgs by quite a lot, however with all the little extras it’s quite understandable.

The Muddyfox Voyager 100 road bike comes with Promax front and rear alloy V-brakes. These brakes are very well reviewed, they respond well to the rider when engaged and stop the bike quickly and effectively. The sensitivity of the levers is normal and requires very little configuration.

The tyres that come on the Muddyfox Voyager 100 are 700 x 38c trekking tyres. Suitable for long rides and durably made, they should last a long time as long as they avoid damage. The tread is slightly heavier than most road bikes however the tyres are still thin enough to allow the Muddyfox Voyager 100 to glide through the air with minimal effort. An upgrade of tyres is probably not needed for the average rider and therefore one less expense to consider when buying a new road bike.

The ride enjoyment is considerably higher due to the little extras on the bike. The handlebars being slightly curved allows for a comfier position. The mud flaps and chain guard stop any water or mud spraying up onto the rider and the Muddyfox Voyager 100 tyres are slightly chunkier than the average road bike so the softness improves the riding experience. When you include the fact that the rider has somewhere to store their luggage rather than on their back the comfort of this bike is very impressive.

It’s quite clear the Muddyfox Voyager 100 road bike comes with lots of little extras you don’t see with standard road bikes. The downside is that it is heavier than most but unless you’re lifting the bike regularly then this may be a trade off you’re happy to make. The bike looks good, rides well and has a kick stand, what more could you ask for?
